The Northern Wild: How to Save New York?

June 12, 2013

My recent post on Charlie’s blog about how to save New York from rising sea level drew interesting response.
And yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg announced serious proposals.
So how to you think New York–and other coastal cities–should prepare?
Some thoughts:

–Build giant levees and seawalls.
–Replace streets and cellars with wetland to absorb the water.
–Give up on the lower levels, and effectively build up on stilts, like the did in Beasts of the Southern Wild.
–Raise the city buildings up and pile all the city’s trash beneath. Somebody calculated that trash levels would rise faster than the sea level.
–Move the city to Ohio (my favorite)
